TransCape NPO was registered on 4 August 2004 with South Africa’s Department of Social Development. Registration number 035-619 NPO. TransCape is further registered as a Public Beneficiary Organisation with the South African Revenue Service. Tax exempt number RG/0059/01/06 and PBO file No 930 018 201.
The organization was the initiative of Mdumbi Backpackers’ workforce and friends. Together with the medical staff at Canzibe hospital they established an NPO to help the communities of the Nyandeni sub-district to tackle their significant health, social, educational and economic needs.
TransCape was established in order to assist with the following:
In 2006, TransCape established an education centre in the Mankosi community to support the local education system and to develop the knowledge and skills of young people to the appropriate national level. Under the microfinance project which was started in 2008, TransCape has offered loans and support to individuals who want to start their own business.
We are a connected community comprising of holistic, healthy and empowered individuals in an optimally developed and fairly managed, sustainable environment.
To be an optimally informed, monitored, open and accessible hub with relevant examples, tools and networks for making positive choices about how to live.
We believe people need to discover for themselves the best way to address the challenges they face. But that doesn’t mean that the people who have already worked through many of these challenges cannot assist. Such assistance should take the form of listening first, providing access to knowledge, examples and resources, and identifying and assisting those who want change. In certain instances where those faced with the challenge have no voice or have no consciousness of the threat (for example children, HIV/AIDS, exploitation by the powerful) more drastic measures to influence change can be taken with an approach based strongly in contemporary human rights.
We believe we can make a difference for our community and our donors as a reliable and sustainable partner based on the following

"We are Trans-Ned, a non-profit organization in The Netherlands (founded in 2006). All of us have been in the Eastern Cape (the target support-area of Transcape) several times and are touched by the difficult circumstances the local people are living in. Since 2006 we help raise funds for Transcape in order to support them with improving this situation.Transcape keeps us in touch regularly by sending mail and pictures. Also we know all members of Transcape in person.
Besides promoting the work that's being done by TransCape, we also play a role in transferring money (raised in The Netherlands) to their bank account."
"The Orange Green Cross is an organisation who works / helps the people in and around the Canzibe Hospital in the old Transkei from about the year 1982. The contact was with a number of Dutch doctors from the Netherlands who works in the Canzibe Hospital. Our activities were most of the time donating money for several projects in the region.
Since the starting of TransCape we organise all our activities over Transcape. And we are very satisfied about the cooperation with them.
Most of the time they write a proposal for a project in that region. We looked for it and when we are satisfied, we send an e-mail with an agreement. In the following time we receive regularly reports of the progress of the project and also about the financial responsibility. So we have at several moments an insight of the project.
Our organisation works/worked with TransCape at the following projects (till now):
Now we are active for the renovation of the TB-ward. The government has no money or to little money. We try to find an other donor in Holland to realise that project. Regularly we mail with TransCape over the progresses.
We are very satisfied over the cooperation with TransCape."

TransCape established the ARV Unit and has done many other infrastructural maintenance and upgrades for the Hospital and feeder clinics. We have quarterly meetings with TransCape as to coordinate our efforts in providing a better service to the people living Ngqeleni District.
